Good thought, Uli! The motor looks like an Einrude Big Four (60 c.i.) converted to a remote fuel tank. These motors were used on the landing crafts of the Allied forces and for fire extinguisher pumps in WW II. This could also be an explanation for the remote tank... the Allied needed some more gallons of fuel than the closed course racers.
The olive-green color and the handles on the cylinder heads of the motor also resembles army equipment. After WW II Evinrude and Johnson didn't continue to build racing motors. Therefore the old army motors were used by outboard racers to continue the alky racing classes.
Looks as if this little hull ran in Class F Racing Runabout after WW II...
