Hi, New user and first post here. My username gives away some info - Name is Steve and I'm in New Zealand. I hope the google translate works ok for those that don't read English.

I stumbled across this site about 10 days ago and have been fascinated by everything to with vintage outboard racing ever since. So much so that I have an Aeronaut Spitfire kit on order and while waiting for that to arrive I decided to have a go at building an Atomite from plans for practice. I realise the Spitfire isn't eligible for registration and I'm not worried about the Atomite either as being down here in NZ I will probably have to race with myself! Having said that I am going to try to make them as authentic as possible.

I have been reading and studying many build logs here and have many questions but will save them for later. I will now attempt to post one photo (as an attachment) for a test before I post the rest, it's not showing in the preview so may or may not work.

Not the greatest resolution but you get the idea.

The frames (I'm pretty sure) are 4mm okoume ply, it's just what I had lying around in the shed, the hull skin is Paulownia which is native to China I think but it grows here in New Zealand (North Island). It's light like balsa but stronger, I've made SUP's with it. The stringers are also scraps I had lying around, either Macrocarpa or Kauri.

I need to start thinking about power and RC gear before I go too much further. I'd really like to cover the front hull in polyester cloth and not have a hatch, think I saw a build on here where someone did that? Think they had a sliding floorboard.


I notice google translate does some weird things as it's trying to translate what I write in English to English, so not sure how it's coming through for you guys (and girls)?

don't worry about google translator. Lot's of us speak english and I think we can well understand you I never use the stupid google translator, when I don't know a word I use dict.leo.org.

tell me, why do you have ordered the building kit of the spitfire? When I see the quality of your Atomite, I believe you'll not impressed by the kit of the spitfire.
